Outdoor Activities
This section of my site is for those who enjoy camping, hiking, kayaking, and similar outdoor recreation. If you enjoy the outdoors, I encourage you to get involved in groups that help preserve natural environments. I recommend the following, the first two being specific to Washington State:
- Washington Trails Association
- Mountains to Sound Greenway
- The Nature Conservancy
- The National Arbor Day Foundation
(Those links don't open in a new window, but you can right-click them to do that if you want.)
Washington State residents and visitors will want to check out the Hiking Guide to the Northwest at Attrition.ws. Click over there if you're thinking about going hiking soon, or if you just want to enjoy the photos for some "armchair hiking."
Thinking about starting an outdoor fire? Campfires are great, but safety matters. If you're in Washington State, stay out of trouble by using these links:
I haven't finished reading it yet, but Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder is a pretty interesting book. If you have kids and you've noticed they don't play outside as much as you did when you were growing up, you'll probably find it interesting too.
