Journey to Yandol Book Details

You can buy a copy of Journey to Yandol, and other stories online via CafePress Publishing. It is a small book (70 pages) with four stories total.

[Journey to Yandol, and other stories] The book is quite different from most you will run across, for two significant reasons. First, the whole thing is published under the Creative Commons: Attribution-ShareAlike license (2.0). Second, the whole book will be released to the public domain after just 20 years -- many decades before it would normally become public domain under US copyright law and international treaties. Plus, all of the stories have been individually published under copyleft-type licenses in the past.

So what does this mean? Freedom! If you get a copy of this book or one of the stories in it -- whether you buy it or get a free copy from someone else -- you can legally do any of the following (and more):

  • make unlimited free copies for your friends
  • sell unlimited copies to your customers
  • write a story derived from one of the stories in the book
  • alter a story and redistribute your altered version -- don't like how Yandol ends? Change it!
  • remove a story from the collection and distribute your reduced version -- don't like Power Off? Dump it!
  • add your own story to the collection and distribute your expanded version
  • create a feature-length movie from one of the stories
  • record a song of, or derived from, one of the stories

It's all about Freedom -- not just in the money sense, but in the liberty sense. All you have to do is read, understand, agree to, and follow the terms of the license. You don't have to pay me a cent.

Publishers: If you represent a major book publisher (and not the "vanity press"/self-publishing type), and would be interested in publishing a non-fiction book written by me discussing copyright law and intellectual product concepts, and would be willing to release the book to the public domain after 20 years, please contact me!

Graphic Artists: Would you like to replace my lousy cover art? If you're willing to do it under the same license as the book, and you're willing to commit to releasing your work to the public domain on the same date as the rest of the book, contact me and let me know what you have in mind as a replacement. (Obviously, it should be related to one of the stories in the book.)
