The big news in the microstock photography world today is that Shutterstock (where you can buy or sell stock photos, illustrations, and video clips) acquired BigStockPhoto, another microstock site that uses a more typical "credit"-based system instead of the subscriptions used by Shutterstock. I have photos on both sites, so it will be interesting to see how the two companies merge their operations. I haven't sold a whole lot on BigStockPhoto, but (as I noted in the Shutterstock forums) my best selling photos on BigStockPhoto were rejected by Shutterstock. Since I obviously have some faith in their earning potential, it would be great if they could now be shifted into my Shutterstock portfolio. I don't expect that to happen soon, though, if at all.
So does this change what I said in an earlier post in this blog, about re-analyzing my strategy regarding microstock photography? Probably not, or not much. I've had to put that decision off a bit, though, due to other things tying up my time these days.
